I have revisited the embroidery file to make the 3.5" x 5.5" notebook covers. I also added more embroidery motif runs. This file is free for the asking. The embroidery file sews at 8.5" x 6.5".

The finished size will cover the 3.5” x 5.5” Field Notes® or the generic notebooks. I’ve used simple elastic hair bands for the closure. A button will be sewn on the opposite side for closing the notebook cover.

Fabric:   10” x 10” base (or size to fit hoop)
2 squares of 7” x 7” (apx.) folded in half
                1 square 7” x 7” (apx.) unfolded

The background fabric should be large enough to hoop on all sides. The embroidery area is 8.5” x 6.5” Hoop the background fabric and a cutaway stabilizer together. I used OESD™ Fuse & Fleece for stabilizer.

Embroider the design including the outer placement line, the elastic loop placement and the center lines of the spine.

Tape the elastic loops at the middle left edge and

towards the top left of the base fabric.

Slow the machine and sew the elastic loops in place.

Tape the two folded 7” squares on the sides of the    embroidered base. The folded edges will be toward the center and the raw edges will be at the top, bottom and sides. Tape the center 7” square FACE DOWN in the center of the stack.

Stitch the final construction runs.

Remove notebook cover from hoop.

Trim close to outside edge runs to remove excess fabric.

Turn notebook cover to right side through the center piece.

Turn folded pieces right side out.

Sew button to outside of notebook cover front (opposite of the elastic loop).

Insert notebook backs into the folded flaps. An ink pen can be clipped to the top elastic loop.
